John joins the team as our Community Grower, and has been busy creating our community garden on the Plock, which in time will aim to grow food for the community fridge in the Reuse & Recycle Hub in Kyle, while also teaching skills in how to create, plant and manage a garden to produce food – part of a drive by KLCT to encourage a more sustainable and resilient Lochalsh.

Joanne joined the Trust in Jan 2023 as Finance Officer. Living in Lochalsh for 20+ years, full circle back to finance after working in various roles in the private and public sector.

Susan joined KLCT in 2020, in the midst of the Covid-19 pandemic. Her immediate focus was to help KLCT to create and operate a robust Lochalsh Community Response to the crisis. Her main focus is now to coordinate KLCT’s ‘Lochalsh Collaboration’ project. Susan lives on Skye and brings a wealth of experience from her previous close involvement with the Camuscross & Duisdale Initiative.

Aneurin brings strong community commitment through his role as a retained fire officer, extensive volunteering, and a passion for community engagement, wellbeing, and positive change in Lochalsh.

Many of you will know me already from growing up here and going to school at Plockton High. For those who don’t, feel free to stop by and get the craic! I am looking forward to nurturing this site and helping make it prosper and flourish into something awesome. I bring with me many ideas and plans for the area to help improve it, and am always open to suggestions – your feedback is not just welcome but encouraged. I look forward to seeing you all on the Plock soon!

Heather started as Plock Ranger in January 2021. She grew up on a farm in the Scottish Borders and can traces her love of wildlife and the great outdoors back to that time. Her parents still farm, but she moved into ecology and wildlife conservation after university, and most recently worked on South Uist as warden for the RSPB. She loves helping people connect to the natural world around them, and take time to appreciate the wonders of the local wildlife.

Our Trustees are volunteers from the local community who provide strategic direction, governance, and oversight to ensure the Trust works for community benefit.

Maggie Byrne

Chair Person

Maggie has lived in Plockton since 2004 but also between 1981 and ‘89, before she and her family moved to Inverness where she joined the BBC. She spent 20 years as a senior editor at BBC Scotland. Since 2009, has worked as an executive and leadership coach and facilitator. She chaired the Board of MG Alba, which runs BBC Alba in partnership with the BBC from 2012 to 2018.

She has been a member of Ofcom’s Content Board since 2018. She was a founding Board member and deputy Chair of Sistema Scotland, a charity which transforms life through music, from 2007 till the end of 2019. She is deputy Chair of Columba 1400, a charity which is based in Staffin.
She is the facilitator for the Sir Lewis Ritchie Implementation Steering Group, which is a co-production between NHS Highland, other public agencies and the community of North Skye, to provide an enhanced health and social care service for the area.

Charlene has lived in Kyle all her life and is well known throughout Lochalsh. She is the manager at Lochalsh Leisure Centre where she has worked for over 20 years. Charlene has been on various committees over the years and having grown up in Kyle is very passionate about happens in the area. She hopes that with her connection to the Leisure Centre she can help contribute to making Kyle and Lochalsh a place that people want to be.

I was brought up in the Black Isle but have close family connections to Plockton and spent most School and University holidays there as well as being a regular visitor throughout my working life. I am a retired Solicitor having worked in the Highlands as a Senior Solicitor for Ross & Cromarty District Council, Assistant Chief Executive with Skye & Lochalsh District Council and latterly for Highland Council as a Legal Manager for Licensing and Planning which involved being Clerk to the Licensing Board, Clerk to the Licensing Committee and clerking Planning Committees.

I moved to Portree in 1991 and following retirement moved to Plockton in 2018. I was Commodore of Plockton Small Boat Sailing Club in 2010 and continued to serve on the Committee until 2021. I am vice chair of the Plockton & District Community Trust.

Gareth spent over thirty years in policing in a range of different forces and operational and strategic roles. He retired as the Chief Constable of Staffordshire Police in 2021 and was awarded the Queen’s Police Medal for Distinguished Service in the 2022 New Years Honours List. He is an independent decision maker for Ministerial conduct with the Scottish Government.

He volunteers locally with a range of community groups and is a trustee for the Lochalsh and Skye Housing Association, the Kyle & Lochalsh Community Trust and SEALL who promote performing arts across Skye and Lochalsh. He has a particular interest in leadership development, strategic and crisis communications and change management. Gareth lives by Loch Alsh with his wife and grumpy cairn terrier.

Anisha has lived in Kyle since 2009 after spending over 15 years working in Marketing Management positions for large hotels in Inverness and then went onto run her own Marketing business for 6 years prior to Covid. Anisha currently works part time as an auxiliary in Broadford Hospital, part time admin at Plockton High School, as well as, running her own Wedding Planning business.

Anisha loves living on the West Coast and is thankful to be raising children in such a fab community! There are such exciting plans and ideas for the Plock, Lochalsh and beyond that you just have to get involved

Anne Campbell

Anne was brought up in Dunvegan on the Isle of Skye and after a short period in Glasgow while teacher-training returned to the Lochalsh Area as a Primary teacher at Dornie Primary School. She lives in Glenshiel and has worked in various Primary Schools in South Skye & Lochalsh since 1978 She was a member of the Area Support for Learning Team from 1998- 2015. Since retiring her time is spent helping family with childcare, visiting family in Australia and caravan trips, when they can be fitted in. She enjoys her Wednesday mornings spent volunteering in the Re-Use Hub in Kyle.

Anne was actively involved in Guiding in Lochalsh for over 25 years , running Rainbow and Brownie Units in Kyle and Auchtertyre and finally serving as a District Commissioner for the area. She has had office-bearing roles on committees, school /parent groups over the years and is presently a member of Loch Duich Community Council .
Anne hopes that her proximity to and local knowledge will be useful in KLCT’s aim to acquire land for affordable housing and business premises with the projects planned for Ratagan and Saraig.
