Lochalsh Local Place Plan registered

The Local Place Plan complements our
Community Action Plan,
which was produced with extensive community engagement in 2021. The Local Place Plan shows how local communities would like the priorities in the Community Action Plan to be implemented on the ground across Lochalsh, through a series of maps such as the Glenelg example shown below. This is explained in more detail in the
Local Place Plan
itself.
To support delivery of the Community Action Plan, the Local Place Plan aims to:
- Help people understand how the Community Action Plan’s priorities will shape their individual communities in the future.
In other words, how the Community Action Plan will land on the ground in local communities. - Support and guide delivery of investment, public services and planning policy across Lochalsh, by the public, private and third sectors.
Nobody can promise that everything requested will be delivered, but this process provides an opportunity to influence public sector budgets and policy. This is supported by new planning legislation that gives Local Place Plans added statutory weight compared to Community Action Plans. More information is available on Highland Council’s

Taken together, the Local Place Plan and the Community Action Plan aim to create a better life in Lochalsh from the cradle to the grave, and to tackle population decline.
The community engagement that informed the Local Place Plan is described in the Plan itself. We are grateful to the many local residents who participated, to schools and pupils across Lochalsh, to local artist Sarah Longley who led the schools work, to Susan Walker of the Trust for managing the project, to independent town planner Nick Wright for supporting plan preparation, and to the Highland Council’s Communities Regeneration Fund for enabling the work to take place.
