Shoreline Bioblitz
2nd September 2023 — 2-4pm
Free event — All ages and abilities welcome
We are very excited to announce the first Shoreline Bioblitz, led by local naturalist Neil Roberts.
The survey will take place on the shore during a very low tide. We’ll meet in the middle car park at 2pm and make our way to the shore. Wellies are essential! Neil will assist with species identification, and all records will be submitted to the local record centre.
Neil has extensive experience rock pooling on local beaches and often discovers beautiful and unusual creatures. While we don’t know exactly what we’ll find, possible sightings include sea slugs, flatworms, starfish, and brittle stars — the possibilities are endless!
Neil retired after 40 years of teaching science in Portree. A keen canoeist, he now spends much of his time exploring the shore. His motto is “no stone left unturned.” As an amateur naturalist, he is constantly thrilled by the variety of life in the rockpools and on the beaches of the North-West, with each trip revealing new species and raising more questions to explore.
